Singapore Trip: 50th Singapore National Day

As mentioned in previous post, I visited Singapore a week before Singapore 50th National Day. Therefore in this post I want to show you how all around Singapore celebrating the golden  jubilee celebration.

When I wanted to go to Merlion, I saw this picture at a store wall:

Singapore Trip: City Garden at Garden by The Bay

After taking pics in Merlion, we decided to visit Garden By The Bay. Garden by the Bay is a vast garden with numerous plants from various countries and 2 special domes for flowers and rain forest climate plants. It is located behind Marina Bay Sands, so if you want to visit this place by MRT, you can stop at Bayfront station then you just need to follow directions that can assist you directly to the garden. You know you've arrived at the garden if you can see the famous Supertree Groove from far away. Supertree Groove are giant man-made trees that are fitted with environmental technologies that mimic the ecological function of trees.

Even tough we were in the garden, but the heat and bright sunlight still heading toward us. There's also a snack and drink car that went around the Supertree and selling drinks so people wont be dehydrated there.

When we arrived to Garden by The Bay, it was already lunch time, so I decided to take my sister to my favorite nasi lemak restauran in the Supertree Dining, which is Hill Street Coffee Shop. This is my third times eating nasi lemak here and it taste so savory unlike in other nasi lemak seller.

I ordered Kampong Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak and drink a bubble drink name something with Bandung word. My sister ordered another Nasi Lemak menu with spicy chicken.

After fueled ourselves with energy from Nasi Lemak, we came directly to the ticket booth to buy ticket to Flower Dome and Cloud Forest Dome. One ticket for both domes can be bought by S$28.

First, we visit Flower Dome. Because we visit the dome one week before 50th Singapore National Day celebration, so the Singapore historical stories themed is all use in all over flower dome. When we entered the flower dome, we were welcomed by Sang Nila Utama stories. Sang Nila Utama is the ruler of Sri Vijaya empire in Sumatra, who discovered Temasik island and saw unknown creature which looked like lion, then change the island name to Singapura which means "Lion City" in Sanskrit language.

Flower Dome is filed with various flower and plants from various climates. At that time we found lots of orchid, which also become one of the Singapore icons. Besides the stories and the plants, there are some statues that are too unique to be missed, my favorite is a family with incomplete body who bring suitcases like about to going somewhere.

Done with Flower Dome, we continue to visit Cloud Forest Dome. When entering CloudForest Dome, we were welcomed by a waterfall which was really cool to see such waterfall in a dome.

Another cool view is looking at these Rafflesia Arnoldii plants made by Lego! yes, Lego!

When you visit Cloud Forest Dome, you can takea a lift to the seventh floor, then walking down to visit every floor that has unique theme that too interesting to be missed. If you afraid of height, walking down from the top floor will be kinda scary, but I guess nothing to be worried cause it looks safe and the view from the top is great too.

After finish sight seeing inside Cloud Forest Dome, we return to Supertree Groove. Because that afternoon Singapore air force conducting their practices for National Day, then the OCBC Skyway is closed early. OCBC Skyway is the bridge that connect several Supertree, so you can see the Garden by The Bay from above in there.

We spend the afternoon under the Supertree while waiting for Supertree "Garden Rhapsody" Light Show in the evening. At 7.45 the show started, and even thought this is my second times watching the light show, but it still amuse me like the first time.

I recommend you to visit Garden by The Bay at the afternoon, around 3 p.m. so you still have time to visit 2 domes and will not spend to too long time waiting the light show in the evening.

Singapore Trip: The "Must-Visit" Merlion Statue

If you've visited Merlion, then it means you've visited Singapore. Well at least that's the "must-visit" spot whenever I accompany somebody new to Singapore. This time I accompany my sister for her first time to Singapore and she obliged me to visit Merlion statue, the one across Marina Bay Sands to be exact.

We visited Singapore last August, one week before Singapore celebrate its 50th national day, so a huge celebration is being prepared everywhere in Singapore during our stay in Singapore at that time. On of them can be seen by young troops patrol around Merlion statue.

During my visit, the new bridge that connected Esplanade to Merlion statue has been opened for public, so this new bridge shortened the walk from the exit of Esplanade MRT station to the Merlion statue. When we almost closed to the Merlion, I can see lots of buses being parked, which means many tourists are visiting Merlion at the same time as me.

At that time, it's kinda hard to get good picture since the place was too crowded. Peoples are all over the place, even in the place that do not cross sign.

After visiting Merlion, I just realized that i was wearing a t-shirt with similar abbreviation with Merlion. Merlion is coming from the words "Mermaid" and "Lion", while at that time I wore Mermeow t-shirt, which coming from the words "Mermaid" and "Meow". What a coincidence :p
